Nova Scotia / Nunavut Command in conjunction with Dominion Command of The R.C.L. has since 1954 sponsored 40 students and 4 coaches and chaperones annually to attend and compete in the Royal Canadian Legion National Track and Field competitions.

Some of these athletes have gone on to compete at world championship competitions and Olympic games.

Sydney, NS will host the 2019 & 2020 National Competitions.

 

2018 NS/NU Command Legion Track/Field Team Brings Home 11 Medals!

The 2018 NS/NU Command Legion Track / Field team consisted of 38 athletes from all over our province. The team competed at the 2018 Dominion Royal Canadian Legion Youth Track and Field Championships in Brandon, Manitoba held from August 8-14 2018. The team returned with a total of 11 medals and many personal bests as they competed against the best T/F athletes in Canada.

The medallists are:
Keighan Decoff (New Glasgow) - bronze in U16 discus
Nick Beaulieu (Bedford) - silver in U18 100m
Maggie Smith (Halifax) - gold in U18 1500m *new legion record
Maggie Smith - gold in U18 3000m
Michael Lander-Pinard (Middleton) - gold in the U16 Javelin
Nick Beaulieu - bronze in U18 long jump
Keighan Decoff - bronze in U16 shot put
Diego Marshall (Antigonish) - bronze in U16 high jump
Nick Landry (Bridgewater) - bronze in U18 400m hurdles
Nick Beaulieu - bronze in U18 200m
Katie Blunden (Halifax), Mikayla Boucher (Dartmouth), Carley Burrell (Hammonds Plains) and Maggie Smith take the bronze in the U18 4x400

I am extremely proud of this young track and field team. They have worked very hard this entire season to make the standards and team selection for this national competition. They faced the best track and field athletes in Canada. The team brings home 23 personal bests, 1 legion record, 2 provincial records and 11 medals. The 38 athletes and support staff of coaches / chaperones are very thankful to the Royal Canadian Legion for the support they have given over a 42 year history of this National Competition.

The Dominion Legion National Track and Field Championships will be hosted in Sydney NS in August 2019.
