He enlisted with the militia and was transferred to the Army Artillery Unit in 1940. He served in Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, and Northwest Europe. He was discharged in 1945. He is a member of Cape Sable Branch #148. Submitted by Cape Sable Branch #148. ADAMS, Guy WWII Guy was born in Smith’s Cove, Digby County, NS. He served in the Grenadier Guard, 22nd Armoured Regiment CAOS from 1941-45. Submitted by Bear River Branch #022. ADAMS, Harlan D. WWII Harlan was born in Steam Mill, NS and has lived there all his life. He joined the Army in 1942, serving until 1946. He was with the 8th Canadian Light Anti-Aircraft Division. He has belonged to The Legion in the past. Submitted by Kings Branch #006. ALLEN, Cecil Arthur WWII Cecil was born on September 7, 1926. Despite several attempts to join the military following the outbreak of war in 1939, Cecil finally made it into the Army Reserves when he turned 15. He was 18 before he was able to sign up for regular service with the Pictou Highlanders, but his desire of seeing overseas duty was left unfulfilled. Cecil was ready to go, and they were ready to ship him out just as the war ended. He now resides in Truro and is a member of Colchester, N.S. Branch #026 Truro. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026. ALLEN, Glen Lorraine WWII Glen was born in May 1923 in Melanson, NS. He joined the Canadian Army in 1943. He served with the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry in the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. In 1944, he was wounded and captured, being held as a Prisoner of War for six months. He returned to Canada in 1945, and worked for Kings County School Board as an Industrial Arts teacher for twenty-nine years. Glen passed away on December 12, 1999. Submitted by Lumsden Branch #074.
