WWII Aubrey was born in Mahone Bay, N.S. in 1921 and other than being away in the service he lived his whole life there. Aubrey joined the Cape Breton Highlanders in 1943 in Halifax and then went on to England and from there as a unit to fight in Italy. Once there Aubrey trained and joined the F.S.S.F. and fought in Ansio, Italy and later pushed on and captured Rome on June 4, 1944. Later, the unit was disbanded and then he returned to the Cape Breton Highlanders to fight in Holland until the war’s end. Aubrey was wounded in Cannes, France on September 9, 1944. He did not return to Canada until March of 1946. He still attends meetings at Branch #049, Mahone Bay, N.S. and still resides in his own home with his wife Rosale. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049. STEELE, John Thomas "Jack" WWII Jack was born on August 21, 1917 in New Waterford, NS and raised on Scatarie Island. He was the son of John T. and Rosanna (Trimm) Steele. He enlisted in the army in 1941 and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in France, Belgium and Holland. He received the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal and the Holland Medal. He was married to Evelyn MacPhee, and they lived in Mira Gut for many years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #055. Jack passed away on July 12, 2005. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055. STEPPINGS, Stanley R. WWII Stan joined the RCAF in 1941 as a Firefighter. During the Second World War, he took part in the invasion of Normandy. He retired from the Air Force in 1963. Stan was a member of Branch #098 Kingston Legion. Submitted by Kingston Branch #098. STEVENS, A. A. WWII Warrant Officer A.A. Stevens C.D. Born Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, 1924. Served with the Royal Canadian Air Force WWII, 1942-46 in Canada and England U.K. was in Bomber Command and 436 Transport Squadron. Canadian Armed Forces 1946-1973 in Canada, Yukon and North West Territories. Retiring from C.F.B. Shearwater 1973. Is a member of Christ Church Dartmouth and the Masonic Order, Lodge 259 Springfield, Ontario and The Royal Canadian Legion #160 Dartmouth, N.S. Submitted by Centennial Branch #160. STEVENS, H. M. WWII Warrant Officer H.M. Stevens C.D. Born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, 1918. Served with the Royal Canadian Air Force WWII, 1940-45 in Canada, Alaska and Aleutian Islands. Canadian Armed Forces 1946-69 served in Canada and Germany. Retiring from C.F.B. Trenton, Ont. 1969.
