www.ns.legion.ca 153 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion WADDEN, Allenby Victor Spencer WWII Allenby was born in Homeville, NS on January 1, 1918, the son of George and Elva (Peters) Wadden. He enlisted in the army on Sept 5, 1939, with the Cape Breton Highlanders and he served until July 2, 1945. He was stationed in England, Italy, Holland, and France. A sergeant, he was a drill instructor. On May 1, 1945, he was wounded on the border of Germany and was in a body cast for six months. He holds the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, and the Holland Medal. He married Wilma Wilson. Allenby resides on Foundry Street, Glace Bay. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055. WADDEN, Basil WWII Basil was born in Port Morien, NS on March 24, 1908. He was the son of Henry and Julia (Barnstable) Wadden. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Army during WWII. He was a member of Branch #055, The Royal Canadian Legion. Basil passed away on July 7, 1973, and is buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Black Brook, Port Morien. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055. WADDEN, Carl Raymond WWII Carl was born on January 12, 1909 in Port Morien, the son of George and Elva (Peters) Wadden. He served as a radio operator in the Signal Corps from 1941-1945 in Aldershot, Halifax. Carl was married to Mildred Morrison. He now resides with his son, Ray, on Hiawatha Road, Homeville, Port Morien. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055. WADDEN, Clarence Joseph WWII Clarence was born on July 24, 1916 in Port Morien, NS, the son of Walter and Agnes (Wilson) Wadden. He served overseas in Italy from 1942 to 1945. He received the Italy Star, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He married Veronica Byrne. Clarence passed away in May 1990, and is buried in Markham, Ontario. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055. WADDEN, Crawford Donald WWII Crawford was born on January 20, 1921 to Thomas and Mamie (Nicholson) Wadden. He served as a coxswain in the RCNVR on the GRTE vessels in Halifax and Sydney. He enlisted in February 1942 and was discharged in December 1945. In July 1950, he re-enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a sergeant in the Air Force Police and the RCAF Marine Division, retiring in November 1958. In the RCAF, he served in Comox, BC, and Goose Bay, Labrador. He was awarded the Canadian Decoration. Crawford passed away in May 1963 in Courtney, BC. Submitted by Port Morien Branch #055.
