www.ns.legion.ca 161 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion WESSEL, Frank E. WWII Frank was born in Toronto in November 1924, but lived his adult life in Dartmouth, N.S. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1942, serving in Canada, the United Kingdom and the North Atlantic until his discharge in 1945. He returned to civilian life after the war and then enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1950, where he remained until his retirement in 1972. Frank was a member of Centennial Branch #160 from its beginnings in 1967 until his death in 1974. Submitted by Project Chairman. WEST, William "Bill" F. WWII KOREA Bill was born in Coldbrook, NS and lived his adult life in Kentville, NS. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders from 1939 to 1945, fighting in France and Germany. He also fought in the Korean War. He has been an active Legion member for 44 years. Submitted by Kings Branch #006. WHYNOTT, John B. WWII John was born in Mahone Bay, N.S. in 1917 and lived his adult life in and around the Mahone Bay, N.S. area. John first served in the Merchant Marines in 1941 and transported oil to the British Isles. Later in 1943, he joined the Canadian Navy and served until the end of the war. John married his wife, Agnes, in 1953 and has five children all in the area. John is a member of Branch #049, Mahone Bay, N.S. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049. WILE, Frederick Elkanah WWII Fred was born on July 24, 1913 in Mount Denson, Hants County, NS. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on June 1, 1942 as a stoker. He served on convoy ship HMCS St. Francis. He was discharged on September 6, 1945 from Peregrine. Fred had identical twin brothers, Cecil Deal Wile and Lawrence “Larry” George Wile, who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Fred passed away on April 3, 1970. He is buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, NS. Submitted by Hants County Branch #009. WILE, Lawrence George “Larry” WWII Larry was born on July 20, 1922 in Mount Denson, Hants County, NS. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in January 1941 and served until his discharge in November 1945. Larry is an identical twin to brother Cecil Deal Wile and brother to Fred Elkanah Wile. Larry lives in Comox, British Columbia and is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #160 Comox. Submitted by Hants County Branch #009.
