www.ns.legion.ca 163 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion WILLIAM, James WWI James was born in England, and entered the Royal Navy as a boy seaman in 1896. He served on various ships, most notably H.M.S. Cornwall, taking part in the Falkland Island battle, and the landing at Suvla Bay, Dardanelles. He came to Canada on H.M.S. Aurora in 1920 and enlisted in the Canadian Navy, where he served until 1931. Upon leaving the Navy, he took on the position of Storehouseman at the Naval Magazine (now Forces Ammunition Depot), retiring in 1944. Submitted by Calais Branch #162. WILLIAMS, Frank WWI, WWII Frank was born in England, and came to Canada in 1923. He joined the Canadian Army (Permanent Force) in 1927. He was Honourably discharged in March 1930 with the rank of Gunner. He re-enlisted in the Canadian Army in November 1930, and served in Canada, Newfoundland, and the Central Mediterranean area. He was Honourably discharged with rank of Bombardier in 1948, completing twenty-one years of service. He was a member of Somme Branch #031 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Submitted by Somme Branch #031. WILLIAMS, George Henry WWII George was born in Fall River, Halifax Co., NS on September 29th, 1915. He joined the Canadian Infantry as a Driver Mechanic MV and was discharged on April 1st, 1946 with the rank of Private. George was a member of Bedford Branch from 1966 to 1974, transferring to Scotia Branch from 1974 to 1979, and finally to Calais Branch #162 in 1979 to the present. His Tour of Duty was Continental Europe, United Kingdom and Germany. Submitted by Calais Branch #162. WILLIAMS, Horace WWII Horace was born in England, and came to Canada in 1923. He served as an apprentice at H.M.C. Dockyard before joining the Navy in 1938. He served in Canada, on the high seas, Newfoundland, and Britain. He was mentioned in the Kings dispatches for distinguished service. He also served as Director of Fleet Maintenance, Naval Headquarters, Ottawa. On leaving the Navy with rank of Commander in 1967, he worked at H.M.C. Dockyard as General Foreman, Administration Office, until 1976, completing twenty-nine years of service. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Bedford Branch #095. Submitted by Bedford Branch #095. WILLIAMS, Leonard WWII Leonard was born in England, and came to Canada in 1923. He joined the Canadian Army in 1935. He served in Canada, Labrador, and was Honourably discharged in 1957 with rank of Warrant Officer, receiving the Long Service medal and Good Conduct medal.
