www.ns.legion.ca 35 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion CARRIGAN, Daniel Maxwell WWII Max was born on June 22, 1919 in Westville, NS. He enlisted in the R.C.I.C. on June 4, 1940 with the West Nova Scotia Regiment 3rd Brigade. He joined the Pictou Highlanders in 1940. Max arrived in the United Kingdom in May 1942. He disembarked Sicily on November 8, 1943 He was promoted to Lance Corporal on December 6, 1944. He was killed in action on December 16, 1944 at age 25. He is buried at Coriano Ridge War Cemetery in Italy, Lot X-A-6. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal. Submitted by Stellarton Branch #028. CARROLL, Martin J. WWII Marty Carroll was born in Sydney, NS in 1924. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom during the war. He was honourably discharged in 1945 and returned to Sydney, Nova Scotia where he worked in the steel industry until his retirement in 1985. Marty has been a member of Branch #012 Legion for the past 53 years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012. CARTER, Lawerence "Nick" WWII Nick served the Canadian Army with Anti-Aircraft artillery in Britain. Submitted by Cambrai Branch #037. CHIASSON, Daniel "Danny" KOREA Danny was born in New Waterford, NS and in 1946, when his father returned from the war, the family moved to Cheticamp, NS. In 1953, he enrolled in the Canadian Army. He served in Korea from 1953 to 1954, Debert, NS, Camp Gagetown, Indo China, North and South Vietnam and in Cambodia as a mail clerk and courier. He served in West Germany from 1967 to 1970, and saw service in Mileau, France as a translator for the British Forces undergoing training in preparation for Belfast, Ireland. He also saw service with 5ROALC Valcartier, Quebec and with the Airborne from 1976 to 1980 and later became the Chief Instructor at the French School in Gagetown from where he retired. Danny has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for more than 33 years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012. CHRISTISON, James WWII Jim was born in Pictou Landing, NS in 1923 and has resided in Trenton since 1965. Jim served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve from 1941 to 1945 on the British Destroyer HMS Vanquisher, The HMCS Baddeck, Sault St-Marie and the Ottawa. Jim saw active duty in the Mediterranean, North Africa, the Pacific and the North Atlantic. Jim has been a member of Branch #29 since 1983, and previously, in 1946, was a member of the Century Branch #100 in Pictou Landing. Submitted by Trenton Branch #029.
