He held the rank of Major. He resides in Lower West Pubnico. Submitted by West Pubnico Branch #066. DEVEAU, Benoit WWII Benoit was born on September 2nd, 1921 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. When the war broke out in 1939, he was 18 years old and he enlisted in August 1940. His basic training was at Dartmouth for one year. In 1941, he transferred to Newfoundland for two years with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 1st Division. He was based at Cape Spear and Hartlands Point and trained at Signal Hill. He was medically discharged in 1944. Because of his service, Benoit received 2 medals; one for active duty. Upon returning home, he worked for Sears and Yarmouth Ice Cream & Dairy until his retirement. Submitted by Yarmouth Branch #061. DEVEAU, George William WWII George William Deveau was a Private in the Canadian Army. He enlisted in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on September 2, 1939. He trained in Halifax between 1939 and 1941, in St. John’s between 1941 and June 1943, and in England between June and August 1943. His first active service was in Holland in August 1943, and he remained in active service until the end of the war serving in Holland, France, Belgium and Germany. George retired (honourable) on December 2, 1945 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is a 50-year member of the Legion. Submitted by Yarmouth Branch #061. DOOLAN, W. G. "Bill" KOREA Bill was born in Sydney, NS on May 2, 1930. He joined the Reserve Force as a Cape Breton Highlander in 1948. In 1950, he joined the Canadian Army Active Force and saw service in USA, Japan and then in Korea from 1951 to 1952 with the Royal Canadian Regiment. In 1954, he returned to Sydney and took his release from the Regular Force as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders later known as the Nova Scotia Highlanders (Cape Breton). In 1969, he retired as the Acting Training Officer in the rank of Sergeant. He has been a member of Branch #012 Legion since 1954 and is the Past President, a post he held for more than12 years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012. DORT, William WWII Bill was born in Roachvale, NS in 1922 and has resided in Trenton since 1955. Bill served with the Pictou Highlander reserve from 1941 to 1942. He saw active duty with The Royal Canadian Army Service Corp from 1942-1946. He saw active duty during The Battle of Britain, and in France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He also served with The Royal Canadian Mechanical Engineering Group from 1953-1955. Bill has been an active member of Branch #029 since 1982. Submitted by Trenton Branch #029.
