www.ns.legion.ca 57 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion ENGLAND, Douglas J. WWII Doug served the Canadian Army with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He landed in Normandy and was taken prisoner at Caen. He spent 11 months in prison camp, Stalag 8B in Germany. He went on death march until he was liberated at the end of the War. Submitted by Cambrai Branch #037. ENGLAND, Thomas WWII Thomas served the Royal Canadian Navy on the High Seas. After the War, he married and raised his family close to home in Mulgrave, N.S. Submitted by Cambrai Branch #037. FEAR, Cyril J. WWII Cyril was born in North Devon, N.B. in 1919, schooled in Moncton and then on to College. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1942 as a Lieutenant and went overseas to England, France, Belgium, Germany, and at war’s end was in Holland. In 1945, he was discharged in Fredericton, N.B. Cyril went on to university and graduated from N.S. Tech College in 1948 in Halifax. In 1950, he returned to the R.C. Engineers and in 1954 went to Korea for one year. Then in 1959 he did a tour with the United Nations in Palestine for one year and retired from the Service in 1965. Cyril moved to Mahone Bay and joined Branch #049 and has been an active member for 35 years. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049. FIELDING, Fred Leward WWII Fred was born in 1920 in Truro, N.S. He served from 1941 to 1946 with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corp and the North Nova Scotia Highlanders. He fought in France, Belgium and Germany. Fred still resides in Truro and is a 45-year member of Branch #026. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026. FIELDING, William Fred WWII Bill was born May 29, 1921 in Inverness, Cape Breton Island and moved to Truro when he was ten years old. He joined the military in 1940 and was with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp where he drove trucks and did mechanic work. Bill served in England, Sicily, France, and Holland. He returned home was released in 1946. Bill still resides in Truro and is a member of Colchester, N.S. Branch #26 Truro. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026.
