He served with the RCNR from July 1940 until 1945 aboard the HMCS St. Clair, Boctouche & New West Minister. He presently lives in Woods Harbour. Submitted by Cape Sable Branch #148. GRANT, Douglas James WWII Born July 2, 1921 in Truro, Nova Scotia, Doug joined the military on April 8, 1940 in Halifax, N.S. On June 10, 1940 he headed for England and remained overseas until October 1944. Doug served with the #1 RCAF Aux Squadron prior to transferring to 407 Squadron Coastal Command. Doug was the first Truro boy to go overseas. He has been a Legion member for 29 years. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026. GRANT, Frank W. WWII Frank was born at Dominion, N.S. in 1920. He joined the Canadian Army Signal Corps, in December 1940. He served in Canada and Newfoundland, returning home in 1945. He now resides at the V.A.C. unit in Middleton. Submitted by Middleton Branch #001. GRANT, Lawrence WWII Lawrence served with the Cape Breton Highlanders as Corporal in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, France and Germany. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was discharged in 1945. Submitted by Donkin Branch #005. GRAY, Earl "Curly" WWII Earl was born in Sydney, NS on May 6, 1924. He was given the nickname “Curly” by his sister, who had noticed his curly golden locks of hair. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve from 1941-45. He served on Convoy Duty on the Newfie Derry Run and High Seas. He also served on the minesweeper, HMCS Vegreville, and took part in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. He is actively involved with numerous Veterans’ activities and a 50-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #138. Submitted by Ashby Branch #138.
