He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 20, 1942 at New Glasgow, NS. He served with the 142nd R.A.F. Squadron (Pathfinder) No. 8 Group Light Striking Force in Canada, United Kingdom, Europe and Korea. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal, Korean Volunteer Service Medal, and the U.N. Medal Korea. Squadron leader Albert Stewart Logan retired from the R.C.A.F. in 1969. Submitted by Stellarton Branch #028. LOVITT, Lamont Grogan WWII Lamont Lovitt “Montie” was born in Halifax, N.S. in 1917 but lived most of his life in Port LaTour, N.S. He enlisted in Shelburne in September 1939 and trained in Bridgewater before proceeding overseas to England in the West Nova Scotia Regiment in January of 1940. He later served in Sicily and Italy from 1943 to 1945 when he returned to Canada in March of 1945. Montie was a Life member of Cape Sable Branch #148. Submitted by Cape Sable Branch #148. MacAULAY, William T. "Tosh" WWII Tosh was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 29, 1925. He enrolled in the Canadian Army on June 2, 1944. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Northwest Europe. He served with the North Shore New Brunswick Regiment in Northwest Europe during the war, and with the North Novies Occupation Force in Germany after the war. He was discharged on July 22, 1946 at Halifax, Nova Scotia. Tosh lives in Sydney, Nova Scotia and he has been a member of Branch #012 Legion for the past 18 years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012. MacDONALD, Augustus William “Gussie” WWII Gussie was born on May 13, 1913 in Westville, NS. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve on September 3, 1942. He served aboard HMCS Melville J 263 Bangor Class Minesweeper, HNCS Stadacona, HNCS Cornwallis from March 1943 to November 1944 in Canada and Western Atlantic. On November 25, 1944, HMCS Melville was approaching the mouth of Sydney Harbour, when a heavy gale had kicked up high seas, and a wave swept over the ship, carrying Gussie overboard. His body was recovered inside the harbour. Gussie was 28 years old. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal. He joined the Army in 1942 and was posted to England where he joined the North Shore(New Brunswick) Regiment 3rd Division, 8th Brigade as a Bren-Gunner. He served in England, Belgium, Holland and Germany before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1951 as a flight simulator technician and retired from the service in 1977.
