www.ns.legion.ca 87 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion MacDOUGALL, D. J. "Stan" WWII Stan was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 27th, 1924. He joined the Army in 1943 and landed in Calais, France in August 1944, fighting through to Oldenburg, Germany. He served with the 2nd Canadian Division and 5th Brigade Calgary Highlanders. After the war, he served one year with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders as part of the Occupation Force. Stan is a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #012 in Sydney, Nova Scotia and he has been a Legion member for the past 19 years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012. MacDOUGALL, J. Lauchlen WWII Lauchlen was born in Inverness, Cape Breton in 1920. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After completing a special course in Oxford, England he was posted to India Command and then to Burma, New Delhi and back to England after D-Day. He is a 45-year member of Branch #043, Port Hawkesbury and is retired in Sydney, N.S. Submitted by Port Hawkesbury Branch #043. MacINNIS, Daniel Hector WWII Daniel was born in Port Hawkesbury in 1926. He followed his four brothers overseas in 1942. One of his brothers caught up with him in England and tried to have him sent home as he was under age. Hector joined the 1st Special Force Canada/US 5th Army, otherwise known as the “Devil’s Brigade” in Italy. He was wounded in both legs, the left hip and right ankles at Anzo Beachhead. He returned to Port Hawkesbury for his 19th birthday, raised a family and was a town councillor for over 20 years. Hector resides in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and is a charter member of Branch #043. He journeyed to Calgary recently to receive his US Combat medal after a sixty-year wait. Submitted by Port Hawkesbury Branch #043. MacINNIS, Hugh G. WWII Hugh was born in Port Hawkesbury in 1915. He served with the Nova Scotia Regiment “Infantry” from 1943-1945 in the Italian Campaign. He was wounded on the Hitler Line in Italy. Hugh returned to Port Hawkesbury after the war and is now retired in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Hugh is a member of Branch #043 since 1949. Submitted by Port Hawkesbury Branch #043. MacKAY, Mervyn Lewis WWII Mervyn was born on November 7, 1920 in New Glasgow, NS. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on December 9, 1941. He served with the 617th Dambusters, #5 Group Bomber Command. His tour of duty included Canada, United Kingdom and Europe. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Aircrew Europe Star, Defence Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the War Medal. Mervyn passed away on February 12, 1991.
