He served the Army in Germany, France, Canada, and Puerto Rico, before being discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the CD, NATO Medals and 12-Year with St. John Ambulance. He enlisted in in 1942 and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was discharged in 1944. He married Joan Caines from Donkin, and lives in Weston, ON. MACKINNON, Aubrey WWII Aubrey was born on July 15, 1922 in Gabarus, NS. He served the Royal Canadian Army in Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Holland, England and Normandy. He was discharged with the rank of Private in 1946. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, CVSM and clasp, Defense of Britain Medal, Victory Medal, Operation Overload (Normandy), and the Holland Medal. Submitted by Calais Branch #162, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACLEAN, A. H. “Bud” WWII Bud was born at West Bay, Inverness County, Cape Breton in March 1921. He joined the Canadian Army in January 1942. He underwent Basic Training in New Glasgow, NS and then went to work at District Depot No. 6 in Halifax. Bud's first assignment was working in clothing stores issuing uniforms and equipment to new enrollees. He then became part of the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers and was employed throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick during the war years. He took his release in 1946 and returned to Sydney, NS, where he worked for the Dominion Steel and Coal Company until his retirement in 1984. Bud is a Life Member has been a member of Branch 12 for over forty-four years and has served on the Executive Committee, which included ten years as the Membership Chair. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserves from 1943-1946. He saw action in the United Kingdom and the North Atlantic. He served on the HMCS Eastview in the North Atlantic and the HMCS Uganda in the Pacific. Archie and his family live in Creignish, Cape Breton, and he is a member of Port Hawkesbury Branch #043, The Royal Canadian Legion.
