James served in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Halifax aboard Queen Elizabeth in November 1945, and was honourbly discharged on December 3, 1945 in Halifax. He began his training with the RCAMC at the Training Centre in Ottawa on July 24, 1941. He left Halifax on October 9, 1941, and was assigned to 1 General Holding Unit, Medical Corp in England. He was honourably discharged on October 8, 1945, and re-enlisted at 1 PD in Halifax on March 5, 1954, being honourably discharged again on July 12, 1963 in Kingston, ON. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, the Canadian Defense Medal, the UN Medal, Korea Medal, and Canadian Decoration. He was originally posted to the Royal Canadian Provost Corps. He was trained in Amherst and Debert, NS. He left Halifax on July 8, 1941, and arrived in Arrowsmith, England on July 31, 1941. He served in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Italy. He was honourably discharged on December 3, 1945 in Halifax, and re-enlisted on January 5, 1954, with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, again, being honourably discharged in June 1965, in Camp Borden, ON. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Italy Star, Canadian Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, and the NATO Service Medal.
