He joined the Pictou Highlanders in September 1939 at Stellarton. His theatres of war include Canada, United Kingdom, and Italy. On January 16, 1940, he was posted to Aldershot, NS for training. From there, he went to Halifax for overseas duty. He arrived in the United Kingdom on May 22, 1940, and was posted to Aldershot, England, with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. He disembarked in Sicily, Italy on July 10, 1943. John was killed in action during the fighting just below Casa Berardi, during the Battle of Ortona on December 14, 1943, at the age of twenty-three. He is buried at Moro River Canadian War Cemetery in Ortona, Italy: Lot I-D-6. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Defence Medal, C.V.S.M. and clasp, and the War Medal. WILSON, Robert J. “Jug” Special Duty Area Robert was born on June 7, 1931. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy on ship: Beacon Hill, Ontario, Ottawa, Athabaskan, Wallaceburg, Magnificent, Margaree, Restigouche, Bonaventure, Kootennany, 102 CFTSD.
