He served the Royal Canadian Army with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Europe and Italy. He was killed in action in Sicily, Italy in 1943. Richard is buried in Agira Canadian War Cemetery in Sicily. He served the Canadian Army with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in Europe and Italy. He was wounded in action. Bill was a member of Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion for thirty years before he passed away in Clementsport, NS in 1997. Submitted by Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion. ELLWOOD, Geoffrey George Wallace WWII Geoffrey was born in London, ON in 1921. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on September 2, 1939, and served with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, and was attached to Essex Scottish when he went to France. He was in the Active Militia before the war. He was taken Prisoner of War during the Raid on Dieppe, and held from August 1942 until May 1945. He was discharged on May 19, 1945. Geoffrey re-enlisted in 1947, and served in the Northwest Territories from 1947-1960, doing radio communications and weather forecasts for pilots flying north or south. He served in Korea from 1951-1952, and the Congo from August 1960 to May 1961. He served in Germany from August 1964 to July 1966, attached to the British Army. He enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. in 1940, serving on HMCS Saguenay on North Atlantic convoys. The ship was torpedoed on December 1, 1940 with twenty-one crew losing their lives. Ted was demobilized in 1945. He now resides at the V.A.C. unit in Middleton and is a member of Lawrencetown Branch #112, The Royal Canadian Legion. He served the Canadian Army with the North Nova Scotia Regiment in Holland, Belgium and Germany. He has been a member of Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion for twenty-five years.
