www.ns.legion.ca 51 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion FLEMING, Fred WWII Fred was born March 27, 1919 in Sydney Mines, NS. He joined the Canadian Army, 86 Heavy Battery in Antigonish, NS in 1940. He was sent to Hamilton, Ontario for the Gun Fitters Course, then to Fort Lingan, outside New Waterford,NS. He placed his name on the volunteer list for overseas duty and departed from Halifax on the Queen Mary on his way to Scotland. In 1942, he was sent to Belgium with the 7th Medium Artillery Regiment. He served in Holland taking part in various battles. He returned to Canada aboard the Lady Rodney, a Hospital Ship in November during what he described as the roughest seas possible. Returning to Sydney, he was employed for thirty-seven years with Canada Post as a letter carrier, retiring in 1980. Fred has been a member of Sydney Branch #012, The Royal Canadian Legion for more than twentyfour years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012, The Royal Canadian Legion. FLETCHER, George Harold WWII George was born on December 4, 1918 in Montreal, Quebec. He served the R.C.A.S. in Europe. George was a member of Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion for forty-eight years before he passed away on November 6, 1995. Submitted by Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion. FONTAINE, Dennis WWII Dennis was born in Cape St. Mary, NS in 1913. He joined the Canadian Army, Cape Breton Highlanders in 1941, and served in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He was wounded in 1944. Dennis came home in 1946 and joined the R.C.A.F. from 1949-1962. He now lives at the Middleton V.A.C. unit. Submitted by Middleton Branch #001, The Royal Canadian Legion. FOUGERE, Alexander WWI Alexander was from Havre Boucher, NS. He was killed in action in France on November 3, 1917 while serving with the 14th Canadian Battalion. He served the Canadian Army with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England, Holland and Korea. Perry had been a member of Bear River Branch #022 and Clementsport Branch #122, The Royal Canadian Legion for forty-five years before he passed away in 2003.
