www.ns.legion.ca 75 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion HUMENIUK, Stephen WWII Steve was born in Sydney, NS. In 1942, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the Cape Breton Highlanders, and served in Italy, France, Holland and Germany. He was recognized for gallantry and distinguished service. He was mentioned in dispatch and was published in the London Gazette on April 4, 1946. Steve was discharged in 1946 and resettled in Sydney, where he was employed as a Steelworker. He is a Life Member of Whitney Pier Branch #128, The Royal Canadian Legion, having served for fifty-six years. Steve now resides at the Taig-Na-Mara DVA Hospital Wing in Glace Bay, NS. He served the Royal Canadian Army with the Princess Louise Fusiliers on the high seas, Europe and England. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1939, and later joined the Army, serving overseas in England, Continental Europe, France, and Holland, before being discharged in 1945. He currently lives in Musquodoboit Harbour with his wife, Marion. Arthur was a Charter Member of Eastern Marine Branch #161, The Royal Canadian Legion. He is a Life Member, and has also served on the Executive as President, receiving the Palm Leaf and MSM. Submitted by Eastern Marine Branch #161, The Royal Canadian Legion. HUNTER, Roy C. WWII Roy was born on August 6, 1912. He enlisted with the 7th Medium Battery of the Royal Canadian Army in July 1941. Roy passed away on September 20, 1979. Submitted by Hants County Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion. HUNTINGTON, Hector WWII Hector was born in Sydney, NS on March 26, 1920. He joined the military on July 17, 1940 in Sydney and then proceeded to Halifax for employment as a military pharmacist. He soon found himself undergoing military training at Aldershot, NS. He was then sent back to Debert, NS, where he prepared to depart for overseas duty, sailing from Halifax on September 17, 1943. He landed in Greenock, Scotland. He was then shipped to Roman Way Camp in Colchester County, England, and then it was off to Horsham England. He signed up for deployment to Far East Service, and when the Japanese surrendered, while Hector was enjoying some well-earned leave, the unit was disbanded and he subsequently returned to Halifax and was discharged in July 1945. He returned to Sydney and took a position at Pollett's Drug store, where he spent forty-five years working his profession. Hector has been a member of Sydney Branch #012, The Royal Canadian Legion for more than fifty-nine years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012, The Royal Canadian Legion. HUTCHINS, Ellsworth Frederick Korea & Special Duty Ellsworth was born in Digby, NS in 1928. He served the Canadian Army with Black Watch in Canada, and Korea from 1953 to 1954. He was in the Anti Tank Platoon, support company. He received the United Nations Medal and the Korean Medal.
