www.ns.legion.ca 97 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion MACFARLANE, Andrew Joseph WWII Andrew was born in William’s Point, NS. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery. He was killed in action in Italy on September 27, 1944. Submitted by Arras Branch #059, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACGILLIVRAY, Ralph N. WWII Ralph was from Antigonish, NS. He was killed in action on March 20, 1944 while serving the Royal Canadian Air Force. Submitted by Arras Branch #059, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACINNIS, Alexander WWII Alex was born in Port Hawkesbury, NS on September 7, 1919. He joined the Cape Breton Highlanders on September 7, 1939 in Badeck, NS. He transferred out of the Cape Breton Highlanders in January 1940, and joined the West Novies and volunteered to go overseas along with thirty other members of his unit. He found himself undergoing training in Aldershot, NS in January 1940, and in May 1940 was on his way to England. He underwent additional training during his three-year stint during the Battle of Britian. He then proceeded to the Invasion of Sicily, where on July 10, 1943, he joined the 8th. Army to fight in Sicily, then on to mainland Italy on September 4, 1943, where he took part in the Battle at Ortona. He was attached to the Static Line during the winter and was wounded in March 1944. After being wounded, he was shipped to England and spent seven months in hospital getting released in time to join the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry on their way to Lille, France. He saw action across Belgium and Holland, up to the Sheltz Estuary, where they cleared the port of Antwerp to Welchern Inlands. Alex was in Holland until January 1945 and on repatriation to Canada. He settled in Sydney, NS. He has been a member of Sydney Branch #012, They Royal Canadian Legion for more than twenty-seven years. Submitted by Sydney Branch #012, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACINNIS, Donald Maxwell WWII Don was born on October 22, 1916 in Big Baddeck, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. He joined the military in July 1942 and was posted with 86th Bridge Coy until August 6, 1945, when the Bridge Coy was disbanded. He served in England, France, Brussels, Holland and Germany. He resides in Truro and is a Life Member of Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACINNIS, Hughie A. WWII Hughie was born in Georgeville, Antigonish County, NS. He served with the Black Watch Regiment. He was killed in action in Normandy on July 27, 1944.
