www.ns.legion.ca 115 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion MOMBOURQUETTE, Fred WWII Fred was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, and enlisted in the Canadian (Active) Army at Halifax, No. 6 District Depot in September 1944 at the age of 18. He completed his basic training in Yarmouth and Aldershot, and then was sent on course to Hamilton, Ontario. Upon completion of the course, he joined the 6th Division for training by American Instructors and equipment for the war against Japan, however, as the Atom Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan surrendered and Fred returned to civilian life on demobilization in 1946. Fred is married to the former Agnes Gillis from New Waterford, N.S. They have four sons. and three daughters. Since retiring as Co-operative Insurance Agent in Pictou County, Fred and Agnes spend their time between New Glasgow and their summer home in Margaree Harbour, N.S. They have resided in Pictou County since 1951. Submitted by Normandy Branch #034, The Royal Canadian Legion. MONK, Roy Henry Prescott WWII Roy was born at East Ship Harbour, N.S. in 1914. He served the Royal Canadian Army in Italy with the West Nova Scotia Regiment RCIS. Roy was killed in action in 1944 and is buried in Cassino War Cemetery, Italy. Submitted by Four Harbour’s Branch #120, The Royal Canadian Legion. MONT, Thomas Edward WWII Eddie served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders, R.C.I.C. as Private during WWII. He was killed on June 7, 1944 at the age of 25 years and is buried at Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian Cemetery, Calvados, France. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion. MONTGOMERY, Thomas WWII Thomas was born in Belfast, Ireland in 1925. He served in the Army with the 17th Duke of York Hussars, Canadian Reconnaissance in Europe.
