He served in the Canadian Army with the Royal Canadian Signals. He completed his Basic Training in Yarmouth, N.S. He was then sent to Kingston, Ontario for further training prior to going overseas. For his wartime service, Gerald was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France-Germany Star, Defense Medal, 1939-45 Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp, 1939-45 King’s War Medal, Peace Keeping Medal, United Nations. (Congo) Medal, Canadian Forces Decoration, Normandy Campaign (Overlord Juno Beach), and the Dutch Medal. PATTERSON, Leslie Weldon WWII Leslie was born in Tennecape, N.S. in 1922. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force with Stormont Dundase and Glengarry Highlanders 9th Brigade 3rd Division in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He has been a member of the Hants North Branch #166 for 50 years. Leslie was awarded the American Bronze Star for heroic achievements in connection with military operations. as section leader. He served the Royal Canadian Army with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Herbert passed away in 1985. Submitted by St. Peter’s Branch #047, The Royal Canadian Legion. PERRIN, Walter Alvin WWII Walter was born on April 27, 1922 in Dean, Halifax County, N.S. In May 1941, he joined the Army at the Truro Armouries and went overseas that fall with the 82nd Battery 4th Anti-Tank Regiment R.C.A. On May 26, 1944, Walter was wounded. After a month in the hospital, he returned to duty. On June 29, 1945, Walter went to Buckingham Palace and was awarded the Military Medal by King George VI. He was discharged on October 4, 1945, and his medals include 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945.
