He served in the Navy aboard HS-50 Squadron-Magnificent -Bonaventure-Huron-Haida-Cornwallis. He received the Canadian Decoration Forces on April 22, 1960; the UN Service Medal on September 18, 1953; the Korean Medal on March 22, 1955; plus two others. William passed away in 1996. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049, The Royal Canadian Legion. SULLIVAN, Leonard J. PEACETIME Leonard served in the R.C.N. for twenty-five years, from June 13, 1949 to June 13, 1974. He retired as Master Warrant Officer. He served as a Radio Communicator onboard ships and land on the following: H.M.C.S. Magnificent; H.M.C.S. Portage; HM Radio Station, Albro Lake; H.M.C.S. Athabaskan; H.M.C.S. Haida; H.M.C.S. Outremont; H.M.C.S. Annapolis; H.M.C.S. Terra Nova; CFB Stadacona; and CFB Mill Cove (Hubbards). Submitted by Montgomery Branch #133, The Royal Canadian Legion. SUTHERLAND, John Donald WWII Don was born August 21, 1922 in Spiddle Hill, N.S. On June 23, 1941, he joined the military at #6 District Depot. Don was the youngest member of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corp and was shipped overseas on August 1, 1941. After training in Farnborough, England, he was posted to 23rd Field Ambulance as a transport and ambulance driver. He was then transferred to the 9th Brigade. Don was released on February 8, 1946, and rejoined on March 18, 1954 as a Military Policeman. He served in Gagetown, N.B. and Halifax, N.S. until being honorably discharged on March 21, 1957. SWIMM, Murray Cecil WWII Murray was born in Port Hebert, Queens County, NS in 1920. He served on HMCS Algonquin in Canada and England. Murray passed away in 1987.
