He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He received the France-Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with No. 3 C.A.C.R.O. in Canada and England before being honourably discharged in 1944. He was a Life Member of Elsmsdale Branch #048, The Royal Canadian Legion, and also served as President of the Branch from 1954-55.
