He joined the Canadian Air Force and served in the West Nova Scotia Regiment R.C.I.C. in Italy. Freeman was killed in action at 17 years old during the fight to take Ortona in 1943. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on August 18, 1942 in Halifax. He served in Canada, Britain and the Central Mediterranean Area. He was honorably discharged with rank of Gunner on February 15, 1946 in Halifax. His medals and decorations include: the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and War Medal 1939-45, Dutch Medal 2002. GREGORY, Henry J. WWII Henry was born in Youngs Cove, N.S. on January 29, 1924. He joined the Canadian Army in 1942 and served in the UK and France.
