He served the Royal Canadian Army with the Carleton York Regiment in Canada. Submitted by Digby Branch #020, The Royal Canadian Legion. HALL, Maxwell Palmer WWII Maxwell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Hall of South Berwick, N.S. At 18, Maxwell enlisted in the R.C.A.F. on June 20, 1940. After training in Toronto, Sydney, and Calgary, the Wireless Air Gunner sailed overseas on May 20, 1941, and served with the R.A.F. Coastal Command. During one of the 19 flights over Europe in the Halifax bomber plane, Maxwell’s crew was attacked by an enemy fighter over Cologne, but managed to land safely. Another credit earned him the rank of Pilot Officer in 1942. In April 1943, after a successful mission, the crew was returning to base when it was shot down over Kiel, and Maxwell was listed as missing in action. He was killed on May 23, 1944 at the age of 21 years and is buried at the Cassino War Cemetery (Grave Reference: IV .A. 21). Submitted by Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion. HALLIDAY, Dale E. PEACETIME Dale was born in Digby, NS in 1950 and served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada. Submitted by Bear River Branch #022, The Royal Canadian Legion. HAMILTON, Donald G. WWII Donald was born in Yarmouth, N.S. in 1915. He joined the Canadian Air Force and served with 429 Sqd. R.C.A.S. Donald was killed in action in Berlin in 1943.
