On July 13, 1940, he joined the 20 Canadian Field Coy R.C.E. as a Sapper. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany and was released at the rank of Sergeant on November 29, 1945. Harold passed away on March 12, 2003. He was a 55year Life Member of Colchester Branch #26,The Royal Canadian Legion. Submitted by Colchester Branch #26, The Royal Canadian Legion. HAMPSEY, Charles Joseph WWII Charlie was born in Cookstown, Ireland, and immigrated to Canada when he was seventeen years old. He worked in shipyards and forestry industry in Nova Scotia, and eventually settled in Berwick, N.S., where he and his wife, Mary, began raising their family. At 35, and employed at the Graves’ factory, Charlie joined the Royal Canadian Artillery in July 1940. Awarded the Star and Canadian Defense medals, his unit participated in action from France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, and the Normandy landing. As part of a demobilization unit, Charlie remained in the military until December 1945, and became an important leader in the Berwick Legion. Submitted by Ortona Branch #069, The Royal Canadian Legion. HANRAHAN, Terence James WWII Dr. Terry Hanrahan was born in Halifax, N.S. in 1923. He joined the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve as a Shipwright on April 18, 1944 and was discharged as a Chief Petty Officer on February 11, 1946. Terry attended Saint Mary's University and graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. He served the Truro area as a chiropractor for over 40 years. Terry was a 45-year Life Member and Past President of Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion before he passed away on August 16, 2002. Submitted by Colchester Branch #026, The Royal Canadian Legion. HATCH, William WWII William was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1923. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy. Submitted by F. E. Butler Branch #044, The Royal Canadian Legion. HATFIELD, Lorne Edgar WWII Lorne was born March 25, 1911 in Parsboro, N.S. He joined the Canadian Army in 1939 and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in the UK, Sicily, Italy, Belgium and Holland, returning to Canada in 1946. He passed away at Kingston, N.S. in 1972.
