He served the Royal Canadian Army in WWI and the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. He also served Convoy Duty in Halifax. He was torpedoed twice, and was Chief Stoker aboard H.M.C.S. Champlain. Abel was awarded the following medals and decorations: 1939-1945 Star Medal, King George, Atlantic Star, 1939, Defense Medal 1945, Volunteer Medal, King George VI, and the Long Service Medal. HEADING, Arthur WWII Arthur was born in Manchester, England in 1924. He joined the Navy and served the ERA 5th class, the H.M.C.S. Queen, the H.M.C.S. Star (twice), and the H.M.C.S. Thane. He served in the High Seas, England, Scotland, Africa, and the North Atlantic. He served from 1942-1945. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, C.V.S.M., and the Victory Medal. He joined the Canadian Army in WWI and the Canadian Navy in WWII. He served with the WWI Army- Infantry Sgt. from 1914 to 1918, and in WWII with the Navy as Chief “ERA” from 1942 to 1945. He served in Salonica, Egypt in WWI, and in WWII he served in Point Edward Naval Base, in Cape Breton, N.S. He was awarded the Moon’s. Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, C.V.S.M., Victory Medal, and the Queens. Coronation Medal. He was a Life Member of Westside Branch #126, The Royal Canadian Legion, and a member of the “Oed Contemptibles.” James passed away in 1970. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served Convoy Duty in the Atlantic on H.M.C.S. Hepatica from 1946-1948, D-Day and the capture of Nazi Trawler. He also served aboard H.M.C.S. Thunder from 1943-1945; H.M.C.S. New Liskeard in Korea from 1949-1952; H.M.C.S. Huron in Korea from 1952-1954; H.M.C.S. Lauzon 1954-1955; H.M.C.S. Gaspe from1955-1956; H.M.C.S. Mallard from 1956-1959 as Commanding Officer in Shearwater; and H.M.C.S. Algonguin from 1961-1963. Kenneth received eight different medals-mostly from WWII and Korea, including the Centennial Medal. He served in the Navy in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Korea and the United Kingdom. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp, 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, Wound stripe, Defense Medal, C.V.S.
