Her family moved to East Amherst, N.S. in 1927, and in May 1945, Nikki joined the military with a firm desire to help the war effort. She was discharged in May 1946 as the Canadian Women’s Army Corp was being disbanded. Nikki’s only brother was killed in action in Normandy on June 7, 1944. MACKENZIE, Justin Norman WWII Justin was born in St. Peter’s, N.S. in 1922. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy aboard H.M.C.S. Elk, H.M.C.S. Orkney, and H.M.C.S. St. Pierre on the High Seas. He served in Egypt from 1957-1958, and in Korea from 1951-1952, and 1954-1955, with the Signal Corps Army R.C.E.M.E., with the rank of Craftsman. MACKINNON, John Joseph WWII John was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on May 2, 1921. During WW II, he served with the Royal Canadian Corps Signals in Canada, Britain, Central Mediterranean Area (Italy) and Northwest Europe (Holland). John has been awarded the 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and War Medal 1939-45. MACLAREN, Charles Burton WWII Charles, better known as Burt, was born on April 27, 1924 in Truro, N.S. He joined the military in 1941 and served with the 5th Canadian Medium R.C.A. in Palermo, Sicily and Italy. He saw action in the Battles of Casino, Hitler, Gothic and Gustav Lines, and then to France, Belgium and Holland. He returned home in November 1945 and was discharged a month later.
