Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 103 KAULBACK, Ormand C. WWII Ormand was born in New Germany, NS, in June of 1910. He joined the Canadian Army with the 52nd Anti-Tank Battery in April 1941 and served in the UK, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. He also served with the 108th Anti-Tank. He came home in 1945. Ormond was a member of Middleton Branch 001, Kingston Branch 098 and New Germany Branch 102, where he is a Charter Member. He was awarded his 60-year pin. Ormand now resides at the Middleton VAC Unit. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. KAULBACK, Stephen Edward WWI Stephen was born in Victory, NS, in 1876. He joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force in January 1916 and served overseas. Stephen passed away in 1962. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. KELLY, Ralph “Bucky” WWII Ralph was born in Colbolt, ON, in 1923. He joined the “Merchant Ship Vineland” in 1940; six months later, he joined the “Markland” and later rejoined the “Vineland.” OnApril 20, 1942, the “Vineland” was torpedoed by a “U” boat in the Caribbean. Thirty-four soldiers spent five days in lifeboats before being picked up. After a short rest, Ralph joined the R.C.N.V.R., trained in Halifax and Port Edward and was drafted back to Halifax. InAugust 1943, he went overseas on the HMCS “Niobe.” In November 1943, he joined the HMCS Chaldiere in Portland, then to Iceland, where the Skeena was lost, and then back to Halifax for a refit. Ralph went to HMCS Cornwallis for a gunnery course and was there until the end of the war. Submitted by Mersey Branch 038 of The Royal Canadian Legion. KAY, Harold A. WWII Harold was born in Yarmouth, NS, in 1927. He served in the CanadianArmy during World War Two, and received the Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the Victory Medal.
