He enlisted in the Navy in 1986 with HMCS Halifax serving in Canada as a Supply Officer, Operation Appolo. Michael is still in the service as Lt. Comm. - Royal Military College. His stepfather, Lucien Quesnel, stormed Juno Beach. Michael received the Persian Gulf Medal and CD 2 Medal. Submitted by Elmsdale Branch 048 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LIGHTFOOT, Donald E. “Donnie” WWII Donnie was born in Prince Albert, NS, in 1922. He joined the Canadian Army, Postal Corps in October 1942 and served in the UK and Italy. He came home in 1946 and was discharged on March 18. Donnie now lives in Wilmot, NS. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LOHNES, John Malcolm WWII John was born in South Milford, NS, in 1915. He joined the Canadian Army, Cape Breton Highlanders and served in the UK. He was killed on Christmas Day 1941 in England. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. LIGHTFOOT, Charles V. “Charlie” WWII Charlie was born in Prince Albert, NS, in 1919. He joined the CanadianArmy, 1st Canadian Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers in 1940 and served in the UK, Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was awarded the Military Medal for Bravery during the Italian Campaign. He came home in 1945, and is now deceased. His brother Donald also served in World War Two. Through Canadian Marconi Company he was hired as a Radio Officer aboard SS Randa out of Halifax. During World War Two, he served in Randa, three tugs and the Point Belle Park as a coal-burning freighter converted into an oil tanker. While sailing in the St. Lawrence in 1944, Art witnessed the Frigate HMCS Mamog get hit by a torpedo, which blew her stern off. He has lived in Sydney since 1946, after marrying Meta Hooper.
