He served the Canadian Army Intelligence Corps in Europe. Submitted by F. E. Butler Branch 044, The Royal Canadian Legion. MACDOUGALL, Douglas WWII Douglas was born in Sydney, NS, in 1923. He served with the 1st Anti-Tank Regiment in England, Sicily and Italy. Submitted by Westside Branch 126 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MACGREGOR, Norman John WWII Norman was born on October 3, 1922, at Almonte, ON. On February 24,1941, at the age of 18, he enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Following training in Summerside, PEI, and Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Norman proceeded overseas to England for additional training at Wellsbourne-Mountford and Topcliffe, Yorkshire. On December 30, 1944, he was assigned as an Air Gunner to 420th Snowy Owl, a Halifax Bomber Squadron based at Tholthrope, Yorkshire. In March 1945, while Norman was on short leave, his entire crew was lost when their Halifax bomber iced up shortly after takeoff and crashed near Church Fenton, Yorkshire. After VE Day, Norman was assigned to a Lancaster bomber crew to bring the aircraft from England to Debert, NS, for additional training before proceeding to the Pacific theater. This ended with VJ Day, and Norman was discharged from the military. Norman passed away on October 1, 1973. Submitted by Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MACDONALD, Lauchlin William WWII Lauchlin was born in Sheet Harbour, NS, on September 20, 1902. He enlisted as a Private in the N.N.S.H. on September 2, 1939, and embarked for England on July 19, 1941. He returned to Canada on December 15, 1943 because he was too old for the invasion. He volunteered for the Pacific Theater on June 30, 1945, and received his discharge on April 30, 1947. Lauchlin passed away in Camp Hill Hospital on November 14, 1953. He joined the Army in 1943, and served in Canada, UK, France and Germany. He returned home in 1945 and now resides at the VAC unit in Middleton.
