He served with the 4th Anti-Aircraft in Canada, England and Italy. Donald passed away in 1998. Submitted by Westside Branch 126 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MACLEAN, Donald John WWII Donald was born in Donkin, NS, on June 7, 1908. He served with the West Nova Scotia Highlanders in Italy, and was killed in action in Montecchio, Italy on August 31, 1944. Submitted independently. MACRAE, Robert K. “Bob” WWII Bob was born in Stellarton, NS, in 1924. He entered the R.C.A.F. in March 1942. He received his pilot training in Canada and Great Britain. He has been attached to the R.A.F. as a fighter affiliation trainer flying Hurricane aircraft. He then joined the R.C.A.F. Squadron #442 in Europe flying Spitfire aircraft until March 1945, when he was sent back to Britain and flew long-range fighter support to R.C.A.F. daylight bombing raids deep into Germany flying the P51d Mustang. Following VE Day, Bob was on his way to the Pacific Theatre when VJ was declared. He was discharged in October 1945. Submitted by the Stellarton Branch 028 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MacKINNON, John Joseph WWII John was born on May 2, 1921, in Antigonish, NS. He joined the military in 1942, and at the end of January 1943, he was sent overseas and was assigned to the 1st Canadian Signal Corp. John served in the UK, the Italian Campaign, and Northwest Europe (Holland). He was released on March 9, 1946. John is a sixty-year Life Member and Past President of Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion in Truro, NS, and he currently resides in Truro. Medals he was awarded include: 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the War Medal 1939-1945. Submitted by Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MACPHAIL, Stan WWII Stan was born in South Bar, Sydney, NS. He served in the Merchant Navy during World War Two. He is a member of the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association and has been a member of The Legion for the past sixteen years. He serves on the Executive Committee at Sydney Branch 012 and is the Liaison Officer with the local Sea Cadet Squadron, where he received special recognition for his excellent service in that capacity.
