Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 131 MURDOCK, H. Ward WWI & WWII Ward was born in Amherst, NS, on April 4, 1895. On March 8, 1916, he joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force with the 85th. In 1939, Ward was commanding the Infantry Training Centre at Aldershot, NS. On June 3, 1940, the North NS Highlanders were included in the 9th Infantry Brigade of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and Lieutenant-Colonel Murdock was its CO. On May 20, 1942, he was promoted to Brigadier and returned to Canada on June 8, 1942, to command the 18th Brigade in the 6th Division on the West Coast. He was President of Colchester Branch 026 from 1931-1934. He passed away in 1963. Honors and awards he received include: Commander of the British Empire, Efficiency Decoration, CVSM, Defence of Britain, Canadian War 1939-1945, George 5th Jubilee, British War 1914-1918, and the Victory Medal. He served with the 112th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force from December 16, 1915 to March 17, 1919. Submitted by Harding Branch 144 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MYRA, Noble James Harris WWII Noble lived in Western Shore, NS. He joined the Regular Forces on August 2, 1940 and served during World War Two. Noble was a member of Harding Branch 144 of The Royal Canadian Legion until his death. Submitted by Harding Branch 144 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MYERS, Orland Leigh WWII Orland was born at Myers Point, NS, on December 31, 1919. He enlisted in the Halifax Rifles at Halifax, NS, on December 2, 1939, serving in Canada, UK, and Continental Europe. After going to England, the Halifax Rifles were assigned to Armoured Regiments, and, Orland being in the Sherbrooke Fusiliers was one of the Regiments landing on D-Day at Juno Beach on June 6, 1944. From there, he went through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received the 1939-1945 Star, the France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, CVSM, War Medal 19391945, and the Dutch Medal. He returned to Halifax in September 1945. Orland passed away on July 17, 1988. His wife Ruth and family still reside in Dartmouth. Submitted by Dieppe Branch 090 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MYRA, Ernest WWII Ernest lived in Gold River, NS. He served with the R.C.A.S.C. from July 17, 1941 to January 22, 1946.
