Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 137 NICKERSON, Osborne V. WWII Osborne was born in Summerville, Yarmouth County, NS, on April 23, 1916. He served with the No. 5 Bombing & Gunnery School in Dafoe, Saskatchewan. He received the War Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was killed in training and died instantly in a mid-air collision on July 23, 1942. Submitted by Carleton Consolidated Branch 167 of The Royal Canadian Legion. NICKERSON, Whitman Frank WWII Whitman was born at Atwood Brook, NS, in 1917. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served during World War Two. He now resides at the Veterans Unit at Veterans Place Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Submitted independently. OLIVER, Ray WWII Ray was born in Truro, NS, in 1923. He joined the Canadian Army, 5th Anti-Tank Regiment, 4th Division in 1942, and served in the UK and North West Europe. He returned home in 1945 and was released that year. He now lives in Port George, NS. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. NICKERSON, Paul WWII Paul was born in Yarmouth, NS, in 1921. He served in the Infantry in Canada, England and North West Europe. Submitted by Carleton Consolidated Branch 167 of The Royal Canadian Legion. NUTTER (MACPHEE), Jessie Catherine WWII Jessie was born in Caledonia, PEI, on March 5, 1923. In 1942, she signed up with the Canadian Women Army Corp in Charlottetown, PEI. Upon completion of her Basic Training in St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec (this was the last Corp to receive Basic Training at this location), Jessie was sent to Halifax, NS, for training as a stenographer. When she finished her training, Jessie was employed as a stenographer for the Canadian Intelligence Corp until she was released in October 1945. Jessie has resided in Truro, NS, since 1985.
