Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 153 ROSE, Lewis Henry WWII PEACETIME Lewis was born in Oakfield, NS, on December 21, 1920. He joined the military on November 5, 1941, as a Postal Clerk in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Newfoundland and Dartmouth. He was released on February 27, 1946 “End of Demobilization.” On November 1, 1954, Lewis re-joined the military, only this time, he joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Postal Corp. He was posted to many places including Petawawa, Montreal, Alert, Cyprus and Halifax. Lewis was “Voluntarily Released” on May 26, 1971. Lewis was awarded the following medals: 1939-1945 Star, Royal CVSM, Alert Medal, UN Medal, Peacekeeping Medal and Canadian Decoration with Clasp. Lewis passed away on February 21, 2004. RUSHTON, Cecil Wilbert WWII Cecil was born in May 1915 at Peek-a-Boo, near Great Village, NS. He served in the Royal Canadian Army with the Princess Louise Fusiliers. They sailed overseas on the Queen Mary on October 30, 1942, serving in England, Italy, Germany, Holland, France and Belgium. Cecil’s medals include: the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France & Germany Star, the Defence Medal, the CVSM, the 1939-1945 Medal, and the Thank You Canada Medal from Holland. After returning home in January 1946, Cecil owned and operated a farm before going to work for Municipal Spraying and Contracting for thirty-five years. He lived in Montrose and Truro until his death in 2004. He was a member of the Debert Branch 106 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Submitted by Debert Branch 106 of The Royal Canadian Legion. RUSSELL, William John WWI William was born in Victoria, NL, in 1896. He served with the 42nd Battalion Royal Highlanders of Canada. He received the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Military Medal and Bar. William’s acts of courage were recorded in the Book of the 42nd Highlanders of Canada. He passed away in 1968. Submitted by Branch 160 of The Royal Canadian Legion. ROSE (SUTHERLAND), Marjorie Christine WWII Marjorie was born in Earltown, NS, on August 25, 1922. In April 1943, she joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp (CWAC) in Debert, NS. On completion of trades training as an Office Clerk, Marjorie was posted to Halifax, where she was employed at the Embarkation Transit Unit located on Pier 21. With the disbandment of the CWAC, Marjorie was released on October 22, 1945. She married Lewis Rose on March 28, 1945, and they had three children. Lewis passed away in 2004. Marjorie resides in Truro, NS, and belongs to the First United Church in Truro. Medals Marjorie was awarded include: 1939-1945 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He served in the Canadian Army in the First Depot Battalion Regiment from 1918-1919. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and 1939-1945 Star. Roy passed away in 1964.
