He joined the Canadian Army, Princess Louise Fusiliers in October 1942, and served in the UK, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Holland. He returned home in 1945. His two brothers, Joe and Robert, and his sister, Margaret, also served. Alf passed away on April 7, 1993. Submitted independently. RYAN, Robert A. KOREA Robert was born in Waterville, NS, on November 7, 1931. He joined the Canadian Army, even though he was under age. He served with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea, where he was killed by a land mine on February 20, 1952. Robert is buried in Pusan, South Korea. He served from 1940to 1945 as a Private with the West Nova Scotia Regiment fighting in Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and France & Germany Medals. Bill passed away in 1987. He joined the Canadian Army, North Shore Regiment in 1940 and served in the UK and Continental Europe. He was wounded in action but survived to fight again, before finally coming back home in 1945. Joe passed away on April 23, 2006. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SALSMAN, John Edward WWII John was born in Grafton, NS, and lived in Meadowview, NS. He served the Royal Canadian Army from 1940 to 1945, fighting in the Central Mediterranean and Continental Europe as a Sergeant with the West Nova Regiment. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defense Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. John passed away in 1981.
