He was a member of the pre-war militia prior to the war in both Calgary and Vancouver. At the outbreak of hostilities in September 1939, he enlisted with the 1st Searchlight Regiment of the Royal CanadianArmy. Along with many others, he was almost immediately sent to England and spent much of his time there at St. Lucia Barracks. In April 1944, he was transferred to the Army Civil Affairs staff and remained a member of the Civil Aflairs staff until after the end of the war. He landed with them in Normandy on July 26, 1944, and served in France, Belguim, and the Netherlands. Following injuries received in the Netherlands, John, then a Staff Sgt., was returned to the UK and then back to Canada in August 1945. He also served in the reserves in Calgary until 1954. John had a successful career as an accountant in Alberta, British Columbia and Nova Scotia. He passed away in 1996, leaving behind a loving wife and three children. SAULNIER, Charles WWII Charles was born in Saulnierville Station, NS, in 1919. He served with the Regiment de la Chaudiere in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany, and received the France Medal, German Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and Holland Medals. SAULNIER, Alphonse Joseph WWII Alphonse was born in Meteghan, NS, in 1921. He served in the Navy on the Haligonian, York, Donnacona, Montcal, Stadacona, Shelburne and Peregrine. He served in the Canadian Infantry in Canada, Continental Europe and the Far East. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, Korea Medal and United Nations Medals.
