Submitted by Clare Branch 052 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SMITH, Henry Ryerson “Bud” WWII Henry was born in Truro, NS; the only son of Henry Webster Smith and Elizabeth Ryerson Smith. Bud got his Grade 12 education at the Truro Academy and worked for the Nova Scotia Light and Power Company for two-and-one-half years prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Bud was stationed at various Air Force bases out west before going overseas. While serving with 108th Squadron, Bud was shot down over Malta on June 13, 1944 at the age of twenty-six years. He served with the 42nd Battalion in England and France. Vermell was killed in action at Vimy Ridge in 1917. Submitted by Carleton Consolidated Branch 167 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SMITH, George Laurie WWII George was born in Truro, NS, in 1917. He served with the Lake Superior Regiment (Motor) in Canada, Britain and North West Europe. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. He was killed in action in Germany on February 26, 1945. His remains are buried in Plot 24, Row C, Grave 14 of the Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery in the Netherlands. Submitted by the Stellarton Branch 028 of The Royal Canadian Legion. SMITH, Raymond Manning WWII Raymond was born in Saint John, NB, on August 9,1925. He enlisted with the NB North Shore Regiment in March 1944 and went overseas in December 1944. Having served in Europe, he returned to Canada in May 1946. Raymond was the recipient of the Netherlands Liberation Medal. He was employed with CE Harrison N Sons for a number of years and also operated his own blueberry farm. Raymond was a member of Parrsboro Branch 045 of The Royal Canadian Legion and received his fifty-year membership pin. Submitted by Parrsboro Branch 045 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
