He joined the Canadian Army in 1940 and served in Canada. In 1944, he left the Army and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Newfoundland until the end of the war. He enlisted in the Army in July 1940, serving with the 87/88th Artillery. He saw action in Italy, Sicily, Belgium, Germany and Holland, before coming home in 1945. SWEET, William F. “Bill” WWII Bill was born on May 18, 1925 in Truro, NS. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in May 1943 and served in the UK, Germany and Holland as a mechanic on fighter aircraft. He volunteered for duty in the Pacific but the war ended before he could serve, so he came home in May 1946. Bill passed away on July 23, 2003. SWINAMER, Peter WWI Peter was born on October 10, 1897 and resided in Gold River, NS. He enlisted with the 219th “Overseas” Highland Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force on March 23, 1916.
