Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 195 WIGGLESWORTH, Armand WWII Armand was born in Liverpool, NS, on August 17, 1918. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1940 to 1945, and was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1945. He became a Commanding Officer of 133rd Field Battery in Liverpool on January 1, 1947. Later, he received The Order of St. John, the Coronation Medal, Centennial Medal, the CD and three bars, the Order of Lazarus, and in 1994, the Order of Canada, 125th Anniversary Commemorative Medal and, in 2003, Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee Medal. Following the war, he served in the Canadian Forces Militia, commanding the 14th Field Regiment, R.C.A., from 1960 to 1963, serving as The Honorary Colonel, 28th (Ottawa) Service Battalion for six years and the Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the 84th Field Battery R.C.A. (M). Armand is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with Palm Leaf. Submitted by Mersey Branch 038 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WILLIAMS, Sherman WWII Sherman was born at Clarence, NS, on January 1, 1917. He joined the West Nova Scotia Regiment in 1939 and served in the UK, Sicily and Italy. Sherman was killed in action on October 11, 1943, and is buried at Mora River Canadian War Cemetery in Italy. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WRIGHT, Francis WWII, KOREA & PEACETIME Francis was born in Framingham, Mass., USA, on January 12, 1926, and moved to Truro, NS, in 1931. In May 1944, he served with the Royal Canadian Infantry Corp and was discharged at “end of demobilization” in 1946. In June 1951, Francis joined the 27th Canadian Infantry Brigade, and was shipped overseas to Germany, and then shipped to Korea in 1952. In 1956, Francis was shipped to Egypt, and in 1957, he was posted to 2nd Company Service Corp driving staff cars for Command Headquarters. In 1961, Frances left the military and returned to Truro. He is a forty-eight-year member of Colchester Branch 026, and still resides in Truro. He has been awarded the following medals for his service: Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, War Medal, KVSM, Korea Medal, SSM & NATO Clasp, Peacekeeping Medal, UN, Korea, UNEF Medal, and 1956 Egypt Medal. He joined the Canadian Army, R.C.E., and served four years overseas, returning home in 1945. Stanley passed away in 1996. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. WILLIS, Ralph Leslie WWII Ralph was born in Truro, NS, on May 1, 1920. He joined the military as a Signal Gunner in May 1940 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery. Ralph served in England, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. His medals include the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, Defense Medal, and France & Germany Star. Ralph was released in October 1945, and currently resides in Truro. Ralph is a twenty-nine-year member of Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
