He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in Canada, England and France. He received the War Medal, Volunteer Medal, the Germany Star, and Holland Star. He joined the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force on March 25, 1916 at Truro, NS. He served in Canada, Britain and France and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. At twenty years of age, he was killed in action on September 2, 1918 in France while serving with the 4th Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps.
