He enlisted in the Canadian Army Artillery in 1943. He was injured while training and spent the war in Canada until demobilized in 1946. He now lives in Bridgewater, NS. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURBIDGE, Stanley Warren WWII Stanley was born in Brickton, NS, on April 30, 1919. He enlisted in the Canadian Army Search Flight Battery in 1940, and went overseas from 1941-1945. He came home in 1945. Stanley passed away in 1969. BURNS, Daniel WWII Daniel, son of Mr. & Mrs. Edmund Burns of Passchendaele, Cape Breton, NS, was killed in action in Italy on December 13, 1944, after serving in Italy for a year. He enlisted in the R.C.R. in June 1937, just after his graduation from Glace Bay High School. Daniel served in Halifax until the outbreak of war, when he was transferred to Quebec as an instructor in the R.C.R. Submitted by Passchendaele Branch 040 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURBIDGE, Ralph Norman WWII Ralph was born in Brickton, NS, on November 19, 1917. He joined the Canadian Army in 1939, but was unable to serve overseas because of problems with his feet. He served in Canada until 1945. Ralph passed away in June 1990. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion. BURBIDGE, Stewart William WWII Stewart was born in Brickton, NS, on July 15, 1923. He joined the Canadian Army, Halifax Rifles in 1939, but wanted to be a paratrooper. To do so, he then enlisted with the US Army and served in Italy, Sicily and Japan. He was wounded twice and was a POW for eleven months, for which he received the Purple Heart. He came home from the war in 1945. Stewart passed away in June 1979. Submitted by Middleton Branch 001 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
