Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 65 FISHER, Roderick Alfred “Rick” WWII Rick was born on March 7, 1912, at Fisher Hill in Alton, NS. He completed Basic Training in Petawawa, ON, and was shipped overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers. Rick served in Holland, France and Germany and returned home in 1945. He was released at “end of demobilization” in 1946. For his service, he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France & Germany Star, 1939-1945 Voluntary Service Medal and Clasp, and 1939-1945 King George Medal. Rick passed away on October 25, 1998. At the time of his passing, he was a 50-year member of Colchester Branch 026 in Truro, NS. Submitted by Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion. FLETCHER, Alfred Gordon WWI Alfred was born on October 19, 1898. He served with the 87th Battalion Canadian Infantry, Canadian Grenadier Guards. He enlisted in the 106th Battalion and served overseas on July 15, 1916 and went to France in November 1916 and was transferred to the 87th Battalion. He missed the England to France transport with his own Canadian Company because he had the German Measles. He was later shipped out with a British Company. Once in France, he was then transferred to the 87th Battalion. Gordon was killed in action on March 24, 1918 at the age of 19. Submitted by Florence Ogden. FRAPPIER, Marcel J. A. WWII Marcel was born in Dupuis Abitibi, PQ, in 1921. He served in the Air Force in Canada and Newfoundland. Submitted by Clare Branch 052 of The Royal Canadian Legion. FITZGERALD, Arthur G. WWII Arthur was born in Pinkneys Point, Yarmouth County, NS, on June 2, 1917. He joined the Canadian Army in 1949 and served with the 87th Canadian Medical Battery R.C.A. in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Holland. Arthur now lives in Yarmouth, NS. Submitted by Carleton Consolidated Branch 167 of The Royal Canadian Legion. FLEURY, James Bernard WWII James was born on August 3, 1920 in Westville, NS. His father, Victor, and four of his brothers all served during WWII. James joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and was sent overseas in 1940 to Aldershot, England. He was released in 1946 at the “end of demobilization.” James served with honour in Canada, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. He was decorated with the following medals: 1939-1945 Star; France & Germany Star; Defence Medal; War Medal 1939-1945; CVSM. He was a member of Colchester Branch 026 for over fifty years, before he passed away on November 7, 1992. Submitted by Colchester Branch 026 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
