He joined the Merchant Navy in 1940 and signed on with the British Ship S.S. A Leborgne on November 22 of that year as part of a convoy from Sydney, NS. Russell was killed by an enemy air raid on December 21, 1940. He was the only man to be killed from the entire crew. ALLEN, Trueman Moore WWI Trueman was born in Carleton, Yarmouth County, NS, in 1898. He served with the 85th Battalion, Nova Scotia Regiment in Canada and France. ANDERSON, Martin Joseph WWII Martin was born on August 5, 1924 in Truro, NS. On July 28, 1943, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Halifax. After spending a year in training at Lachine, Quebec, Martin was posted to Hamilton, Ontario, where he continued to train at Westdale Tech, becoming an Aircraft Wireless Operator. His postings included St. Thomas, Ontario; Summerside, PEl; Vancouver and Totino, British Columbia. Upon Martin’s discharge in May 1946, he returned to Truro, where he still resides. He joined the Canadian Army, Halifax Rifles in 1940 and served in the UK, Africa, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He returned to Canada in July 1946 and now lives in Nictaux, NS. AMIRAULT, Hilaire WWII Hilaire was born in New Edinburg, NS, on September 2, 1917. He served with the No. 6 District Depot C.A. in Canada. Hilaire received the War Medal.
