Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 89 HAWBOLDT, Mona WWII Mona was born in Leicester, England, in 1924 and resides in Trenton, NS. She served as a Private with the A.T.S. 490th Mixed Heavy Anti-Aircraft Battery, Royal Army from 1941-1945 and saw active duty in England and Northern Ireland. She received the 1939 War Medal, as well as the Defence Medal. She was an active member for many years with the New Glasgow Branch 034 of The Legion and held many offices, including President of both Branch andAuxiliary. She received the Meritorious Award, the Palm Leaf, Life Membership in the Branch, as well as the 50th, 60th, and 75th Anniversary Medals. Mona is an active member of the War Bride Association and a member of the Men’s Artillery Association. Submitted independently. HAYNES, James L. KOREA James was born in Digby, NS, in 1934. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highland Regiment, the 2nd Battalion Black Watch - Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps – Logistics – 85th Ind. Field Battery in Korea, Germany, Cyprus, Canada (NS, ND & NL). He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal (Korea), NATO Germany, UN Forces Cyprus, and the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD2). Submitted by Clare Branch 052 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HEBB, Frederick Thomas PEACETIME Frederick was born in Bridgewater, NS, in 1940 and presently lives in Gold River, NS. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy (MARCOMHQ) from January 17, 1961 to August 16, 1995. Frederick is a member of Harding Branch 144 at present, where he is a member in good standing. Submitted by Harding Branch 144 of The Royal Canadian Legion. HAYES, Guilford Reid WWII Guilford was born in Port George, NS, in 1909. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in May 1940, and served in Canada until being shipped overseas in October 1941. He remained in England until June 1944, at which time he was landed in Normandy with the North Nova Scotia Regiment serving in France, Belgium and Holland. Being released from the Army in October 1945, he returned home to his wife, Thelma, and the fishing industry. Guilford was a merchant mariner until his retirement. He passed away in 1984. He served with the 88th Field Battery Royal Canadian Artillery (M) from March 8, 1955 to September 27, 1957.
