Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 115 HOLMES, Charles Edgar WWII Charles was born in Sandy Point, Shelburne County, in 1922, and joined the Merchant Marine and served one year with the Canadian Provost Corps, Norman P. Clement in Canada and Bay St Lawrence. Edgar resides in Sandy Point with his wife of 60 years. He is still Poppy Chairperson for Loyalist Branch #063 of The Royal Canadian Legion in Shelburne, NS, and serves on the Executive Committee. He has been a member in good standing for over 40 years. He enlisted with the North Shore Regiment (1943-1946) and served in Canada, the UK and Europe. After the war, he returned to Yarmouth where he worked for the Department of Highways, and as a Bus Driver and Trucker until his retirement. JACKSON, Arthur Morton WWII Arthur, son of Haliburton and Lois (Mason) Jackson of South Branch, was born in 1918 and enlisted in the Carleton and York Regiments in 1940. After training in different parts of Canada and the USA, he saw active duty in Italy, Sicily, Africa, Holland and Germany. In Italy, he was wounded by a German grenade. He married Helen Govan Moore of Scotland and settled in Toronto. He passed away in 1973. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. HURLBURT, Victor WWII Victor was born in Yarmouth County, NS, and enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy (1941-1945), serving in the Atlantic Ocean. “Vick” is a Battle of the Atlantic Veteran of WWII.
