Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 125 JOHNSON, Roy Cox WWI Roy, the son of Frank and Susan (Creelman) Johnson of Newton Mills, was born in 1883. He went west and enlisted for WWI while in British Columbia. He belonged to the 104th Regiment of the Active Militia. He was wounded in 1917 and was also gassed at one point during the war. He married Maria Teresa Winton Logan of Upper Stewiacke, who was then living in Manitoba. They made their home in Manitoba and Alberta. Roy passed away in 1963. JOUDREY, William Leroy WWI William joined the CEF in Windsor on December 20, 1915 and was sent to 112 Battalion where he was Quartermaster-Sergeant with that Regiment. He went overseas with that unit in July 1916 and contracted a serious illness and was then invalided home to Canada. He died in Halifax while still in the military service on June 12, 1919. William was the husband of Carrie Arlene Joudrey. He is buried in the Mahone Bay Park Cemetery. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049 of The Royal Canadian Legion. KEAST, Gerald Patrick WWII Gerald was born on September 22, 1924 in Halifax, NS, and served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment Halifax Rifles in Holland, Italy and Canada and also served with the Royal Canadian Dragoons and Royal Canadian Corps of Signals throughout Canada and Europe. He was wounded in the Battle of Ortona and retired from the forces in 1975. He was a member of Digby Branch #020 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Gerald passed away on March 30, 2009. Submitted by his son, Shawn Keast. KAULBACK, Robert Harold WWII Bud, as he was often called, was the son of Gilbert and Catherine (McAllister) Kaulback of Middle Stewiacke. He was born in 1919 and enlisted in the Canadian Army at No. 6 Depot in Halifax and served in Canada. He was discharged in 1944. After the war he worked as a longshoreman on the Halifax waterfront. Bud married June Gladwin Hodgson and they lived in Middle Stewiacke. He passed away in 1993. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society.
