Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 129 KENRICK, Frank Oliver WWI &WWII Frank was born in Massachusetts in 1894 and enlisted in the American Army in 1918 and served one year overseas in France, and later with the Army of Occupation in Germany. He married Ellen Kathleen MacKenzie from Halfway Brook, who had gone to Massachusetts to work. After WWI, they moved from there to Middle Stewiacke where he operated a general store. Frank enlisted in the Canadian Army during WWII and served as Sergeant Major at Debert where he was in charge of the Fire Department. After WWII, he continued to operate the store, later in partnership with his two sons. Frank passed away in 1960. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. KENRICK, Richard Gibbs “Dick” WWII Dick, son of Frank and Ellen (MacKenzie) of Middle Stewiacke was born in 1923 and enlisted in 1940 and went overseas with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps in Italy and northern Europe. He married Jeanette Mersereau and lived in Middle Stewiacke where he worked in Kenrick’s store with his father and brother. He passed away in 1989. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. LAKE, Stafford WWII Stafford was born in Bramber, West Hants County, NS, in 1924, and served in the North Shore Regiment landing in Normandy. He passed away in 1944. Submitted by his sister, Grace Lake. LAFFIN, Frank Albert WWII Frank was born in Tenecape, NS, in 1910, son of Mosher and Rachel (McLellan) Laffin, enlisted in 1942, and served in Canada, the UK, and northwestern Europe. He was married in Scotland to Jean Johnstone and returned to Upper Stewiacke with his war bride and settled in Meadowvale. He drove a school bus for a time and also worked on the roads and in the local lumber mill of Blaikie Brothers. He passed away in 1974. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society.
