MacNEIL, John Myers SPECIALDUTY& PEACETIME John was born in Sydney Mines in 1936. He joined the Air Force and served with the Black Water, RCA in Canada, Germany and Cyprus. He received the Civil Defence, MMM, French Commando USA Ranger Course and has been a member of Breton Branch #008 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 14 years. Submitted by J. MacNeil. MacQUARRIE, George Carson WWII George, son of James Hugh and Nora Jane (Gaston) MacQuarrie of Eastville, was born in 1920. He joined the Army and was placed with the 17th Duke of York’s Royal Canadian Hussars. The Hussars left Halifax in 1941 in a convoy of three troop ships and six cruisers and encountered an enemy submarine as they crossed the Atlantic. He fought in France, where he was wounded by shrapnel. After recovering in a British hospital, he was sent to Holland then back to England and eventually home. He spent the rest of his life on the family farm in Eastville. George passed away in 2000. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. MacNEIL, Michael James WWII Michael was born in Stellarton, NS, in 1918. He served from 1939-1945 in the Army with the Pictou Highlanders and in the Air Force from 1954-1965 serving in Canada. His RCAF Postings were in Gimli, MB, Trenton, ON, Torbay, NL, and Summerside, PEI. He received the CVSM and Clasp, the 1939-45 War Medal, the Canadian Efficiency Medal, and the Canadian Forces Decoration (Queens). He donated his medals to the Pictou County Military Museum.
