Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 145 MacQUARRIE, James Campbell WWII James, son of James Hugh and Nora Jane (Gaston) MacQuarrie, was born in 1910. He enlisted in 1942 and trained in Nova Scotia. His service was all within Canada. After the war, he returned to Upper Stewiacke and spent the rest of his life on the family farm in Eastville. He passed away in 1975. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society. McSHEFFERY, William James WWII William was born in Johnville, New Brunswick, in 1915, son of Edward and Margaret (Craine) McSheffery. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1940 and was discharged in 1945. He served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps in Canada, France, England, Germany and Italy. He moved to Middle Stewiacke in the 1970’s and lived there until his death in 1987. Submitted by the Stewiacke Valley Historical Society McKAY, Gordon WWI Gordon was born in Thorburn, NS, and was working as a policeman when he enlisted in the CEF on September 10, 1915 at Sydney, NS, at age 25. He was part of 36 Battery of the Canadian Field Artillery and was killed on September 2, 1918, on the DQ Line in France. His remains are buried in plot 2 D 21 in the Monchy British Cemetery in Monchy-le-Preux, France. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049 of The Royal Canadian Legion. MADER, Avard Reginald WWI Avard was the son of Brenton Mader. He became a member of the Royal Canadian Regiment shortly after joining the CEF in Halifax on April 6, 1918. He died on October 22, 1918. The RCR were not in battle for most of October 1918, so it seems that Avard may have died of wounds received prior to October 1, 1918. He is buried in plot 2 E 9 in the Valenciennes (St. Roch) Communal Cemetery. Submitted by Mahone Bay Branch #049 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
